RESTORING AN AGED FISHING VILLAGE

The Old Taipa Village, historically home to a local fishing community, is the oldest inhabited area of Taipa Island. Its traditional storefronts and cobbled streets are an interesting contrast to the glitz and glamour usually found along the Cotai Strip. The project blends Chinese and Portuguese architecture, and features a wide selection of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, as well as an array of heritage attractions. Taipa Village is undoubtedly a unique cultural landmark, allowing locals and visitors alike the chance to experience the authentic diversity of Macau.

MAO provided architectural restoration and legal/regulatory consultation for seven of the district’s buildings. Of particular note is the utilization of rooftop spaces as a new feature of these buildings, some of which now house the area’s most popular restaurants.
