A TASTE OF CANTON

The Yum Cha Restaurant at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Macau allows guests to sample exquisite Cantonese fare in inspiring luxury. The design concept brings the dynamism of Hong Kong’s traditional outdoor markets into the confines of a five-star hotel. Common visages of these bustling outdoor spaces (tea utensils, mahjong board pieces, etc.) are embedded in the restaurant’s metal and glass façade. Guests in the reception area are greeted by two unique installations: a showcase wall collage composed of whitewashed cooking utensils, and a traditional Cantonese vendor bicycle painted gold to match the hotel’s lavish interior.

OPEN BAZAAR – THEMED DINING AREA

The restaurant’s primary dining area centers on the open kitchen constructed from teak counters lined with black-painted rustic aluminum, a design inspired by classic Honk Kong food stands. This is a multifunctional space offering a breakfast buffet, afternoon café treats, and specialty regional dining in the evening. The room’s layout reflects the spirit and ambience of Canton’s outdoor bazaars, with an open square surrounded by a plethora of colorful signs and storefronts. An illuminated sign reading “fish market” and the sophisticated fish tank designs highlight the region’s bountiful seafood offerings. The walls that encapsulate the central dining space feature a range of artwork and installations that at once deconstruct and embody the Cantonese bazaar experience.

CHINESE OPERA
 – THEMED PRIVATE DINING SPACE

Another fixture of Hong Kong life, the Chinese Opera, is infused into the private dining room space. Here, contemporary furniture is paired with colorful patterns inspired by the opera houses. Red felt walls, walnut cabinetry and paneling, and classic Cantonese chandeliers frame and illuminate an exclusive culinary experience. Unique wall artwork, including a vibrant character mask collage, completes the ambience. The dining area is separated by two movable wood partitions that can be reconfigured to meet special requests.
