LIFT LOBBY AND CORRIDOR

Guests who check into the Penta Hotel Taikooli in Chengdu are reminded of the boldness and vitality of youth, qualities vital to the creative vision of the lift lobby/corridor design. We express this through the use of mid-century industrial aesthetics (concrete, walls resembling shipping containers, etc.) paired with local graffiti decorating the walls, a nod to modern global street culture.

STANDARD ROOM

The “typical” guest rooms of the Penta are far from typical in design. Again, they are a reflection of youth and the bold, creative spirit. Contemporary use of monotone communicates spatial division with white walls and ceilings serving as the primary color and painted steel as the accent. Oak artifacts provide richness and warmth, while urban photography and installation art constructed from bike parts fill the room with the energy of the city outside.

LOFT

The signature loft rooms of the hotel take advantage of the double-height ceilings and elongated vertical features to augment the aesthetic of the standard guest rooms. The additional wall space incorporates the same industrial elements of the lobby corridor (bricks, glass, concrete, shipping container wall panels) and urban artwork as they are used to express the openness of the loft. The bedroom, living room, and kitchen exist as one continuous space vertically and horizontally.

SUITE

The Suite-type rooms pursue an emotionally charged and intimate encounter for the hotel’s guests. Warmth and comfort mirroring a luxury residential experience is the essence of these rooms. Balance and sophistication are the most important considerations, in terms of material, texture, and color.
