REFURBISHING A PLACE OF HERITAGE

As the principal cathedral of Macau, Se Cathedral has a long, storied past. First constructed in 1576, it was a simple, diminutive wooden building subjected to centuries of erosion, and eventually it became dilapidated. In 1849, the local catholic diocese collected donations for its restoration, yet this too fell into disrepair. So, in 1937, the cathedral again gained renewal, this time in the triple-clay reconstruction that resulted in its grand, magnificent appearance today. MAO took great care to refurbish the cathedral’s interior once more, conscientiously selecting elements and materials that align with its esteemed heritage.
