TEXTURE: STEEL

Steel is the primary material used to express the concept behind the “Amanojak” brand. All of the steel work is composed of custom hand-crafted pieces, done in collaboration with a local metal shop in Tokyo. Three different alloys are accented through the use of texture and finish to highlight the idiosyncrasies of metal craftsmanship and merge them with the core building structure.

COMMUNITY HUB

Up-and-coming luxury boutique, “Amanojak,” opened their second store in the historic downtown neighborhood of Sendagi, Tokyo. The Edo-period shopfront styles still prominent in the community were respectfully considered in the minimalist design layout. The monochromatic color scheme and use of handmade black steel panels add a subtle, modern touch. An abundance of natural light connects the busy outside shopping streets with the store’s interior.

INDUSTRIAL MILL

Unlike the entranceway, the shopping area in the back of the store is dark and enclosed. Concrete walls, and the exposed building structure evoke a sense of wandering into a workshop. Craftsmanship envelopes the space as customers browse finely-detailed luxury merchandise and consult with shop staff. Even when the store is closed, staff pose in front of the full-height steel panel wall while shooting selfies for Instagram and SNS promotion.
